The Custard Factory, in Digbeth, is where my former business, Mad Elizabeth Vintage, began its days so it will always hold a special place in my heart. Back then there wasn´t much but a couple of shops, offices and a flea market every Saturday where we used to sell our secondhand wares. In recent years it has undergone a huge transformation and the colourful complex is now a thriving creative hub boasting a number of boutiques, studios and cafés.
On my recent visit I popped into see the lovely ladies at Trunk Junkies Vintage, a store which is full to the brim of amazing pieces of on-trend vintage clothing and jewellery. This mother and daughter duo certainly know their stuff when it comes to sourcing the best vintage pieces and with the odd designer piece to be found the phrase “treasure trove” has never seemed more appropriate.
In addition to the permanent retail fixtures there is a regular programme of events including music, fairs and workshops. The Custard Factory is certainly worth the 10 minute walk from the city centre and is a welcome break from the monotony of the high street. If you’re in Birmingham then go check it out!
