I’m a sucker for a good view, and when visiting a new city getting up high and taking it all in from above is top of my hit list.
Lucky for me Madrid is full of rooftops (many of them with bars) so I haven’t been short of a decent view or two since moving here. This short and sweet blog is a quick guide of my personal top 3 places to get a good view of Madrid… and sometimes a glass of vino too.
Palacio de Cibeles – Plaza Cibeles 1, 28014 Madrid
The Observation Deck at Palacio de Cibeles provides great 360 degree views of the city and further afield. It costs a mere 2 euros for a half hour session at an allocated time. Purchase your ticket from the ticket office at the front of the building.
El Corte Ingles, Callao – Plaza del Callao, 2, Madrid
Take the lift to the top floor and arrive at the food hall (called Gourmet Experience) of the department store. Here you can choose from a variety of different culinary offerings or simply grab a drink from one of the bars and enjoy the view. Free entrance
Mercado de San Anton – Calle de Augusto Figueroa 24, Madrid
Modern food and drink market in the heart of Chueca. Make your way to the top floor where you can dine at La Cocina de San Anton or make your way to the bar for a Gin and Tonic. If you’re after a view of the entire city then this probably isn’t the rooftop for you but great if you want to enjoy a chilled out drink with a cool crowd. Free Entrance.
Happy roof topping!
